What is a straight stitch? How to perfect your sewing
First on our how to perfect your sewing skills guide, we will look at: what is a straight stitch?.
Generally speaking, the straight stitch is the most commonly used stitch in sewing. As the name suggests, it is a continuous line of straight stitches.
In order to use this stitch, simply select the straight stitch on your dial or digital screen. Once you are ready to start a project, it is always a good idea to test your tension and stitch length on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure you have these correct.
To begin perfecting your sewing, We will start with a straight line . Once you have got the hang of those, we will then move onto more complicated patterns, such as: zigzags, curves and right angles.
Straight lines- How to perfect your sewing
First on our how to perfect your sewing tutorial, we will look at straight lines. Without a doubt, you will find that most of your sewing projects and patterns will include some straight lines. Additionally, perfecting your straight lines will also help as we progress to harder worksheets.
In order to begin sewing your straight line, you first need to line up your needle and worksheet line. Next, lower your presser foot to keep the paper in place.
Once you have completed this, it is time to start sewing by applying pressure to your foot pedal. Continue sewing to the end of the line.
Furthermore, you will find that as you go along the worksheet, some lines are closer together to help with your practice.

Sewing 90 degree angles- How to perf
Following on from straight stitch in our guide on how to perfect your sewing, we will look at 90 degree angles. Overall, this section will cover: how to sew sharp corners.
On the whole, it may seem a little daunting a first. However, once you have completed this worksheet, you will hopefully feel much more confident in sewing corners at any angle.
In addition to this, if you feel that you may still need some practice, simply print out the page again and retry.
As above with the simple straight line, begin by lining up your needle with the first line on your sheet and sew straight until you meet the first corner. Once you have come to this corner, stop sewing and check that your needle is lowered into the paper. Although many digital machines will have a setting to do this automatically. Alternatively, you can also do this by turning the large wheel on the side of your machine.
After this, lift up your presser foot and pivot your paper until the next line is in place. Finally, lower your presser foot again and sew straight. Once again, repeat until the end of the zigzag line.

Curves- Sewing practice for beginner
Another worksheet that we have produced is the curved sheet. As the name implies, this guide will help you to perfect the skill of sewing curves.
Again, this is something you will commonly do when sewing garments, clothing and many other projects. Generally speaking, the overall trick to sewing curves is foot pedal control. Not only do you not want to go too fast, but you also need to ensure you are turning your fabric (or in this case paper) at the correct speed.
Begin this worksheet as you did with the others. First, line up your needle with the line on the worksheet. Next, apply a small amount of pressure on your foot pedal and start to sew. As well as this, ensure you have your hands placed firmly on both side of the paper, turning the paper slowly as you go. Continue this until you have completed all of the circles in the worksheet. Again, as with the others; it is important to remember that practice makes perfect.
